Equatorials

The Equatorial Celebration is an official academic function for the juniors who have completed their first three years at the University (i.e. liberal education at CAS) and who have already begun their fields of specialization (under the Graduate Schools and Institutes). At this celebration, you will receive a beca bearing the color of the respective Graduate School you are entering, and the University seal. The underlying concept of the celebration is derived from the tradition in some European universities of officially recognizing those students who have successfully completed half of their course of studies. In Spain, this academic act of recognition is called Paso del Ecuador; this is translated as the “crossing of the equator”. This tradition was first adopted by CAS in 1990 and is the most significant academic function after the first three years.
